Guo Guan’s paintings show a profound aestheticism and a solid technique. They are extraordinary for their delicate touch, composition, ideas, and color arrangement. They are not restricted by any style or school but present only true feelings. They are modern and traditional as well. The entire composition is powerful and elegant.
Guo places emphasis on the details. The rich texture, the refined artistic effects, and the abstract painting style are all part of his experiments combining Chinese painting with Western painting style. His works are rich in touch and colors. They are simply extraordinary and full of spirit. He also brings poetry into his paintings. Such combination allows for more complexity and depth in the apprehension of both the poems and the paintings. Both his paintings and poems show his love of nature. The poetry and the painting complement each other, and thus generate a new aestheticism. Guo’s poetry brings a new life and energy to his painting.
A painter must read more than most people. Beihong once said that the difference between a craftsman and an artist is how much they have read.

Guo Guan conducts much research into the art of landscape painting. His revolution approach to in the traditional in art is based on his knowledge. His paintings contain a Zen spirit. Art exacts standards and discipline. Guo’s standard is righteous; it is a standard procedure of the unification of veritas, bonitas, and pulchritudo.
Guo’s paintings are poetic: he brings the function and the spirit of poetry into landscape painting. He gives poetry a visual perspective and brings musicality and rhythm into the painting. Poetry is the soul of landscape painting. If a landscaper painter thinks like a poet, the landscape painting will attain to a new dimension.
Guo is a romantic painter and a romantic poet as well. He paints with poetic ideas. When he is inspired, he paints by following the principles of writing a poem and thus takes landscape painting into a whole new world, a bigger world. He sees the entire structure and the quality of his themes, which contain different layers. Guo dedicates himself to alternative artistic thinking and always adjusts his approach to pursue his goal. I believe that Guo will arrive at even more artistic truths in times to come. |
